How can we introduce ourselves in English in a proper step-by-step manner?

Hello, friends. Today I will discuss how we can confidently introduce ourselves to our seniors, colleagues, or a stranger we just met recently.

Importance of Introduction speech.

We should not take this topic lightly as we all know people judge us from the very first impression that we create in front of them. To create that impression, we must know how to sell ourselves better. Trust me; we can do that easily from a well-scripted introduction speech.

Self-Introduction speech gives us a point of initiation from where we can start a conversation. It also gives a hint to the person in front of us to divert a small interaction into a longer discussion on common topics.

Self-Introduction gives us power and confidence within ourselves. We generally never say any negative words about ourselves when we give an introduction speech; hence the more we tell those positive words ourselves, the more confident and powerful we become.

So let’s get started without wasting time. Let’s know a proper step-by-step manner to give an introduction speech.

1. Always start with a greeting: whenever we start to speak about ourselves, we should start with a greeting like “Good Morning, Good Afternoon, Good Evening, or simply just “Hello” will do the job.

2. Tell our Name: Now it is time to tell our names. There are two ways to say that in English, we can say “My name is Raman” or “I am Raman.”

3. Tell the age, but it is completely optional: This is the time to disclose our age. However, it is not mandatory to disclose our age in an introduction speech; we can simply skip this point. If we have to tell our age, we can say, “I am 30 years old” or “I am 26 years old, and I am about to be 27 by 21st May of this year.”

4. Time to say the place we are from: Now is the correct time to talk about where we are from. We can be born and brought up in one place and still living in that place, or we are born in one place and now living at some other place due to our job, business or school, or any other reason it can be. So we can say it in different ways like. “I am from Delhi,” / “I was born in Kolkata, but at present, I am settled in Delhi,” or “My hometown is in Rishikesh, but I work here in Mumbai.”

5. Talk about our family: It is the right time to talk about our family, but if the person in front of us is interested in knowing us and not our family, then we can skip this part until the listener asks us to tell him who are there in our family. If we have to share information about our family, we can tell this way “My father is a retired income tax officer, and my mother is a housewife. I have an elder sister who got married recently, and she is a government high school teacher.”

6. Share our education and qualification: This is a very important part of the introduction speech, and the listener observes this information actively. So to impress the listener, we must start our education qualification from the school level towards a higher qualification. We should mention the name of the degree, the institution from where we studied, and the percentage we scored.

For example, “I have completed my 10 and 12 from Kendriya Vidyalaya Dehradun, where I scored 62% and 67% marks, respectively in my 10 and 12. After that, I did my graduation from the NSHM knowledge campus, Kolkata, which was a BBA Hons degree. I scored 72% marks in my graduation; after that, I did my master’s in business from MIT business school, Pune. I scored 79% marks. I do have a master’s degree in English from IGNOU, and I scored 82% marks there.

7. Time to share our past work experience and what we are doing at present: This is the point when we flaunt ourselves in terms of skills and experiences we have, so we shouldn’t hesitate to flaunt at this point but to show our skills and experiences we must not start from any random point of our life, we should start from our first job experience, and we will end it at what we are doing now at the present time, we should also mention how much time we spent on each of those job experiences and what we have learned from those job experiences.

For example, “After completion of my master’s in business, I got my first campus placement in a publishing company called “kips publishing world” I worked there 3 years as territory sales manager. I used to visit schools and have meetings with the principals of the school and convince them to use our book in their schools. My knowledge in extensive traveling, communication, and convincing ability got better from those 3 years of work experience in Kip’s publishing world. After leaving kips publishing world, I got a better opportunity at “Gurukul India private limited” as Branch Manager. I worked there for 2 years. It is an educational organization where we can have all sorts of knowledge, be it music, education, dance, games, etc, under one room. Gurukul India private ltd taught me managerial skills and helped me to learn how to operate a branch. At present, I have been working as a trainer and coach for the last 3 years. I help people in grooming their soft skills and spoken English abilities.”

Note: I have added two work experiences to have an idea, but we can add as many experiences as we have in the same manner. The only condition we should keep in mind is that the experiences must be shared from our first job experiences till the present job experiences we are doing at present.

8. Time to share our hobbies: we must remember hobbies should be shared after we have mentioned our complete work experiences because hobbies indicate an ambiance of a lighter mood to tell the listener that we are about to end up talking about ourselves. But we should remember that hobbies should never be shared in a single sentence; we should give a whole reason in detail why we are so much interested in that hobby.

Example: Now, coming to my hobby, I love to watch and collect movies. Basically, I watch movies as a way to learn new things. I try to learn anything and everything from a movie. It can be a flop movie or a hit movie; I don’t care. I believe anyone who makes a movie must have explored that in depth about the movie and want to share with us the knowledge he explored. I can even try to learn something from a flop movie like “Karib Karib Single” If you ask me what I learned from it, I would say the movie gives us the knowledge that online dating apps are not always useless. It really sometimes helps people to find the right person who is lonely and needs a partner in their lives.” So for me, every movie teaches us something. We just have to look hard enough to find that knowledge.

Now it is time for us to make our own introduction speech. I will share a complete introduction speech below so that we all can follow and make our own introduction speech according to our life and achievements.

Good morning, I am Ramesh. I am 29 years old. I was born in Kolkata, but at present, I am settled in Delhi. My father is a retired income tax officer, and my mother is a housewife. I do have a sister who is older than me, She got married recently, and she is a government high school teacher.
